We all scream for ice cream(.....and froyo)! With summer just around the corner it seemed very necessary that I take a little bit of time to talk about the best ice cream and frozen yogurt spots in LA. I'm a huge fan of both frozen concoctions so I have done lots of research and investigating in order to find the best of the best when it comes to LA's sweet treats scene. It was difficult work, eating all of that ice cream and froyo but somebody had to do it.
After years and years of painstaking research.... trying different flavors...adding toppings... eating it out of cups....eating it out of cones... the results are in. Here are my favorite ice cream and frozen yogurt spots in LA:
1. Mother Moo Creamery
Locations: Sierra Madre and South Pasadena
I had to kick this off with the best of the best. Mother Moo Creamery is hands down some of the best ice cream I've ever had in my entire life. With an ever changing menu comprised of fresh, organic ingredients there is always something new and delicious to try. Their salty chocolate ice cream is the most delectable, perfectly rich and flavorful chocolate ice cream you will ever taste in your entire life. I challenge anyone to find another chocolate ice cream that even comes close to theirs. If you're in the mood for something a little more tart and light, try out the blueberry lime sorbet or the fresh basil ice cream. Other not-to-miss flavors that are sometimes harder to find but always seem to reappear on the menu would be butterscotch and cinnamon (usually only available around the holidays). Do yourself a huge favor and swing by their Sierra Madre or South Pasadena locations and give it a try for yourself. Your sweet tooth will thank you!

2. 21 Choices
Locations: Pasadena and Claremont
Yes, there will most likely be a line out the door when you get to 21 Choices. YES, the line is totally worth the wait. When it comes to frozen yogurt, 21 Choices really knows what they're doing. Pick your favorite flavor-- I'd highly recommend circus animal cookie or Belgian chocolate-- then pick your mix-ins and wait for happiness to ensue. Like Mother Moo, their flavors change daily so if you're looking for something specific take a look on their website before heading over, they post their daily flavors!
3. The Bigg Chill
Location: Century City
As if the retro vibe and cool neon sign wasn't enough to entice you in, the fact that their froyo is as delicious as it is insta-worthy makes everything that much better. If you stop by in the evening or on the weekend be prepared for a line. With awesome options like iced caramel macchiato, bourbon butter pecan and honey greek yogurt you can rest assured knowing that you're in for a unique and memorable frozen yogurt experience. Be sure to snap a pic of your froyo in front of the 'bigg chill' sign before you leave!

4. Diddy Riese
Location: Westwood
Step aside traditional ice cream sandwiches. The made to order cookie and ice cream sandwiches at Diddy Riese are messy, drool-worthy, dessert dreams come to life. Like many other locations mentioned on this list, you should be prepared to wait in line when you get to Diddy Riese. The line always looks aggressively long and discouraging but it moves quickly so don't let that scare you off! Once you make it to the counter pick what type of cookies you want then pick your ice cream, and voila! You'll soon be face-to-face with the ice cream cookie sandwich of your dreams. You get SO MUCH ice cream for an incredibly low price-- usually around $3 per sandwich. Added bonus: Diddy Riese is open late it's the perfect stop on your way home from the bars!

5. Afters
Locations: Alhambra, Cerritos, Chino Hills, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Highland Park, Irvine, Long Beach, Pacific Beach, Pasadena, Riverside, Rancho Cucamonga, Rowland Heights, Sherman Oaks, Temecula, Tustin, Upland, Venice, West Covina and Woodland Hills
If you're looking for over the top and unique ice cream then Afters is the place for you. With killer flavors like Vietnamese coffee and cookie monster, their menu never disappoints. However, if you're looking to try something a little more out of the ordinary consider trying one of their milky bun sandwiches which is essentially a glazed donut-esque bun with ice cream in the middle... it's super sweet, super messy and SO good. Possibly some of the most photogenic and beautiful ice cream ever, this stuff tastes even better than it looks.
I honestly could go on and on (...and on and on and on some more) about additional awesome places to stuff your face with frozen treats, but these 5 stores are the best of the best so I'll stop here. If any of these places are new to you, let me know how you like them when you go, I'd love your feedback! Have a delicious week everyone!
